Community-agreed "algospeak" — an organic, evolving coded language used on TikTok so educators, advocates, journalists, and survivors can discuss difficult topics without triggering automated content moderation.
Sensitive multi-word phrases collapse into initials. These are the most widely understood and stable substitutions:
SA (sexual assault) · DV (domestic violence) · CSA (child sexual abuse) ·
SH (self-harm) · ED (eating disorder) · TW (trigger warning) · MH (mental health).
All language around death, killing, and suicide converges on unalive. Conjugates naturally:
unalived, unaliving, unalive themselves.
This is the single most universally adopted algospeak word.
Replace flagged words with phonetically similar, innocuous words. The community chose these together:
rape → grape · sex → seggs · sexual → seggsu4l ·
porn → corn · weed → le lettuce · cocaine → le snow.
Conjugations follow the same swap (raped → grape'd).
Swap one or two letters with visually similar numbers or symbols so the word is human-readable but defeats keyword matching:
a → 4 · e → 3 · i → 1 · o → 0.
Used when there's no good rhyme: r4cism, 4buse, depr3ssion, tr4uma.
Insert a dash, dot, asterisk, or space inside a word to break the string without changing pronunciation:
gr∞ming, h4te-crime, p3d0, g*n.
Works as a last resort when rules 1–4 don't apply.
Prepending the French article le or le petit signals irony / coded language to in-group viewers while appearing benign to classifiers:
le herb (marijuana) · le lettuce (weed) · le petit harm (child abuse).
Used sparingly for nouns only.
